 Freedom Fighter Dr. Ashton Bunda is Dead

One of founders of United Independence Party (UNIP)Dr.Ashton Mwansa Bunda 92 years old passed on 18TH April 2024 around 23 hours at his home in New Kabwata ,Lusaka after long illness.

Dr.Bunda  played a back ground role in the transition  of the Movement for Multi -Party Democracy (MMD) in 1990 and later formed the first ,third  political party in Zambia   National Democratic party Alliance (NADA) with his colleagues Dr.Dickson Konkola the late,,Reverand Isaac Mumpanshya  and Peter Chiko Bwalya.

Dr. Bunda  a political  scientist was the first black  African teacher at Prince Charles secondary school now called “The Kamwala Secondary School’ in  1959,in  19 69 he was requested to helped Mozambique military  president Samora  Marshell draft the current constitution  and played  an integral role in helping  military leader Jonas Savimbi writing the current constitution of Angola .

Dr.Bunda   was  appointed by Zambia’s first president  Dr. Kenneth Kaunda to be personal physician  for one month  in 1970.

Dr. Bunda who the member  Amnesty International did not serve as  member of parliament and  cabinet minister during his political activity and helped secure the plot where Libala Seventh Day Church on Chilimbulu road.
