UPND IN GOOD POSITION TO RESUSCITATE ZAMBIA’S CLOTHING INDUSTRY, MIKE KAIRA

By Ashton Kelly Bunda and Derrick Sinjela

United National Independence  Party (UNIP) Acting President Mike Kaira says Hakainde Hichilema led United Party for National Development (UPND) Administration should strive leave a legacy by trying bring back the famous defunct Serioes clothing factory which was a sister company to ADIDAS clothing company in an effort to strengthen the Kwacha currency though exports.
Comrade Kaira told The Bundas Incorporated Blogspot that ‘The Resolutions of UNIP Members of the Central Committee (MCC) meeting held on Sunday, 28th August at Muntansya Lodge on Great North Road in Lusaka that when responding if they will claim back Serioes Clothing Company  that his will stop fighting among themselves and contributing to economic liberation.
Kaira said the MMD Government employed wrong policies and allowed the importation of ‘Salaula’ translated as second hand clothes from abroad and hence the ‘New Culture’ regime lost focus on resuscitating Kafue Textile Industry,  a mainstay in adding value to cotton through producing quality material.
A determined Kaira said another important component that would made Serioes a house hold brand in the whole world is resuscitating Lint Company of Zambia (LINTCO),  a giant cotton producing company that MMD would have helped to stay alive than condemning or ‘selling off for a song’ what Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda left behind when they got power in 1991.
“Wrong policies employed by the MMD government and allowing the instead of making corrections to what UNIP failed to accomplish during their tenure as at one point they “UNIP” under Kenneth Kaunda channeled all their efforts in helping liberating neighboring countries, South Africa ,Zimbabwe ,Angola , Namibia and Mozambique being one of them,”Kaira explained.
He said UNIP which was the mother of political parties also introduced cashew nuts industry in western province, Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe , the Coffee plant in Kasama, Northern Province  which was vandalized as well as  a pineapple industry in Mwinilunga, North Western province.
