Retirees can be ‘Productive, Not Liabilities’ says Cyprian Mayamba

National Productivity Development Department Director Cyprian Mayamba says those in the ageing category must not be relegated to liabilities in the community but, persons with potential, skill and experience to enhance productivity in the economy of the nation.

On her part, United Nations (UN) Representative   Jessica Petitprez said the youth and middle aged people will someday “Get over the 60-year hill” bracket towards retirement and hence must learn to be inclusive as regardless of one’s age, ageing is inevitable.

Speaking during Stakeholder Dissemination on the Research Findings of Ageing, on Friday, 15th March, 2024 at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel, Lusaka, Mr. Mayamba implored policy mapping to enhance ageing productive capacity.

“Being retired does not renders us to liabilities in society, but we have potential to be productive and contribute to the growth of national economy, leadership in history and culture preservation,”Mayamba stressed.

Mayamba cited the Support to Older Persons in Zambia (STOP) Zambia, which is led by young people advocating the plight of the ageing citizens and community.
