Government bails Cathrine Phiri - Kudakwashe Chiwendire fight

Christopher Malunga has confirmed that the international fight between Catherine
Phiri and her Zimbabwean opponent Kudakwashe
Chiwendire and supporting bouts will be sponsored by the New Dawn Government
under the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts on Saturday, 26th February, 2022 at Lusaka’s Government
Complex whose deficit is K225,000.00
During a Friday 18th February 2022 Press Briefing
at the Ridgeway Southern Sun Hotel, Malunga said following a meeting with Youth, Sports
and Arts Minister Elvis Chishala Nkandu and
Permanent Secretary Chileshe Kangwa , the Zambian Government threw its weight on the OQBP camp campaign to host
the Eight (8) international bouts budget at K 689,000, a purse money at K 130,000 with sanction costs
pegged at $4,250 and referees
budget at K105,000.
One the best boxing promoters in Africa, roping in talented boxers from Central
and Southern Africa in to the OQBP camp,
Malunga is happy with the way Government is handling preparations of the fight.
“I have seen the commitment from the Minister Nkandu and PS Kangwa , giving it their all, the Zambian boxing fraternity is back and the world will focus on us again, we came across financial challenges and with help of the government, this income deficit has been overcome, Malunga proudly said .
Among other sponsors are Trade Kings, Top Star Television
and Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) will televise the fight
exclusively on TV 3.
The Phiri versus Chiwendire fight will take place at exactly
22 hours on Saturday 26th February while the supporting bouts will
see female boxers Lina Kasweka fight Chimwemwe
Banda from Malawi , with Julias Ndong owill fighting host Sherriff ‘boom,boom’
Kasongo.
Flanked by OQBP Administrative Secretary Ben Saili and local referee William Sekeleti, Malunga confirmed that foreign boxers cleared by their respective boxing boards and federations will start arriving on Monday 21st February 2022, while referee Mr. Ouchi, accommodated at Stay Easy Hotel at Levy Mall in Lusaka will arrive on Wednesday, 23rd February, 2022.

Kings, Maluanga commended the media for making a solid foundation of the tournament,
after a lull boxing due to Coronavirus (covid 19) pandemic since March 2020.
